Maryland Day “Unpaused”: Self-Guided History Hike of Bacon Ridge Natural Area

June 15, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - June 30, 2020 @ 5:00 pm

Free

PLEASE NOTE: The temporary trail signs were removed from Bacon Ridge at the beginning of July, in accordance with our agreement with the County. However, it is still possible to enjoy the History Hike without the temporary trail markers. The downloadable trail guide is still relevant and useful—the stopping points are marked on the trail map and, in most cases, only need to be approximately followed. The two specific stopping points, the abandoned cars and the tree with unusual roots, are easy to identify along the trails.

Celebrate Maryland Day (a little later this year!) by heading out for a self-guided history hike of the Bacon Ridge Natural Area. Scenic Rivers Land Trust’s staff have prepared materials to help you explore for landscape clues in the history-rich Bacon Ridge Natural Area.  You’ll learn how humans and nature have interacted to make the landscape we see today, all while enjoying the beautiful 1000+ acre protected forest. Hike is between 2-4 miles on an unpaved trail through the woods. Dogs on leash permitted.

Register to receive a PDF trail guide that includes a map, information on Bacon Ridge’s land use history, and links to short videos to supplement the information in the guide.
